Are you our new CTO?
Do you want to be a part of shaping the future of DAM? We're looking for a visionary and experienced CTO to take full ownership of Fotoware’s technology platform.
Fotoware is a Norwegian software company that develops and delivers advanced and innovative Digital Asset Management (DAM) solutions to customers in 40 countries worldwide. We are proud to work with some of the world’s leading brands and organizations, such as the Financial Times, Rijksmuseum, Breitling, London Metropolitan Police, and many more. Together, we enable people and organizations to do more with their content.
Company Culture:
At Fotoware, we believe in challenging norms in the market and embracing big, bold goals. Our culture is built on four core values: Innovative, Passionate, Responsible and Caring. We take ownership of our work, deliver on our promises, and support each other in achieving our goals.
We are looking for a visionary and experienced CTO to take full ownership of Fotoware’s technology platform. In this role, you will be an important part of defining our technical architecture for customers worldwide, lead our approach on AI, and ensure high standards for security, compliance, and software development. At the same time, you stay close to the technology by engaging directly in architecture, reviewing critical designs, and actively guiding teams in adopting new technologies, including AI-driven development practices.
At Fotoware, you will join a technology organization in a fast-moving company with a flat structure, and take on a role with significant autonomy, responsibility, and real impact on our continued growth.
As CTO, you combine deep technical expertise with strong business understanding, and see how technology decisions affect scalability, cost, margins, and long-term value creation. You are able to identify and drive opportunities to embed new technology and AI solutions into our product offering, strengthening our competitive position in Digital Asset Management and delivering new customer value.
You will work in close partnership with the CPO and Product organization, sharing responsibility and accountability for plans, priorities, and outcomes. Our product and technology strategy is a companywide decision, made to drive innovation and ensure reliable, high-quality solutions that deliver lasting value for our customers.
What we are looking for in the CTO role:
Overall ownership of technology, architecture, and platform evolution, ensuring a modern, modular, cloudnative platform that balances rapid delivery, scalability, security and cost efficiency
Lead Fotoware’s AI transformation across both product and engineering, identifying where AI can fundamentally improve how we build, operate, and deliver value to customers—not as incremental improvements, but as step-change capabilities
Drive continuous evolution of our engineering practices, including automation, AI-assisted development, and new ways of working that significantly improve speed, quality, and developer experience
Guiding technical leadership, with the ability to engage deeply in architectural decisions, challenge engineering tradeoffs, and support teams in solving complex system problems when needed
Cloud leadership with ensuring cost‑efficient use of technology, balancing performance and financial sustainability
Lead and further develop architectural and technology choices, challenge trade‑offs, and support teams in solving complex system and platform challenges
A unifying leader for engineering, building and developing leaders and senior technologists, setting clear standards, fostering an innovative and high-trust culture with strong ownership
Working as One Team with Product, collaborating closely on roadmap, priorities, and delivery capacity to align technology investments with customer and business value
Security‑by‑design leadership, continue to integrate security, identity, compliance, and data‑protection principles into architecture, development, operations, and decision‑making
Clear communication skills, and able to articulate complex technical matters to customers, partners, and internal stakeholders
The CTO will have a strong and competent team of middle managers and tech leads to work together with to reach our goals. This role will have full P&L ownership, report to the CEO and will be part of the senior leadership team. The role is located in Oslo.
To succeed in this role, you should have:
10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform development, or architecture, with high level leadership experience in complex, mission‑critical SaaS environments, preferably as a CTO or similar
Proven experience designing and operating modern distributed systems, including microservices, API‑first architectures, asynchronous messaging, and event‑driven patterns
Deep expertise with Azure, including PaaS & IaaS services, automated infrastructure, CI/CD, environment provisioning, monitoring, and cost optimization
Proven experience driving AI adoption in engineering and/or product, or a strong track record of leading major technological transformations with hands-on involvement
A track record of increasing reliability and operational maturity, including observability frameworks, diagnostics, production readiness, and continuous improvement processes
Experience or strong motivation of building systems for mixed environments, such as multi‑region SaaS, sovereign cloud, or on‑premise deployments
Experience or strong motivation to apply AI/automation in development processes and product capabilities in a responsible, high‑impact manner
Ability to lead engineering organizations, including mentoring leaders and senior engineers, actively supporting them in their professional development, fostering an environment where they can deepen their expertise and excel in their roles
Experience of being a people manager and preferably manager of managers, understanding what it takes to create and run great performing teams that work well together
Fluent in English and Norwegian, written and spoken
You are motivated by innovation, clear direction, and creating results together with others
